Sheboygan voters decided they wanted to end the saga with their current mayor and turn a new page.  To his credit, the mayor stated that he had now been sober for 200 days, but the damage was done.  I hope he will continue to be sober.

The current Washington County Board Chair, Herb Tennies, had two opponents this time around and came in second with 199 votes compared to the 203 received by James Becker, Jr.  It will be interesting to see if this race stays as tight as it appears.  Tennies has been a fixture.

The Germantown School Board race saw a significant victory by Sarah Larson with 1,344 votes to Lisa Laskowski's 533 votes with the third place finisher, Christina Wolf-Lang, garnering 175 votes.  Obviously there will be more voters turning out for the final election race, so the tables could turn between now and then but it seems voters have made their views known.  This race was replete with charges and counter-charges showing that these wounds have yet to heal.  I suspect that the heat will be turned up even further from this point forward.

The Mequon-Thiensville School Board will lose two incumbents who came in fifth and sixth respectively.  Those are Michele Flasch Ziegler and Cindy Miske.

Voter ID requirements didn't pose any problem at all just as most of us had expected.  There was a report of one person in Milwaukee who was turned away after showing an ID from 1970.  The Milwaukee election commissioner is reported to have said this was a protest and that the person returned later with proper ID.

  1. Personally, I think it's a shame that in a Village of 20,000 residents, less than 2,000 votes were cast. Let those who didn't vote keep their mouths shut about any business the school board conducts in the future.
  2. That is even worse when you consider that the School District encompasses more than just the Village of Germantown.
  3. No too suprising that there was such a small turn out to vote. It was only a primary and being involved in politics for many years history has shown that primary's typicall have a very small turn out...
  4. There will certainly be more voters in the general election. Three out of the seven school board seats are up in April. I hope that the Germantown voters who have children or grandchildren in the school system or people who enjoy high home values will realize what is really at stake in these races and act accordingly.
  5. What do I think? I think Larson's primarly "victory" can hardly be called "significant" in a contest that saw a pathetically low voter turnout. The primary results are indicative of nothing, save for the fact that 1300 far-right fanatics rushed to the aid of an extremist candidate.

The crumudgeon is right about one thing though; the heat will certainlky be notched up in the coming weeks. The moderates who predominate in this community have yet to be heard from, and I guarantee that Lardson's margin of victory will evaporate by April 3rd.
